It was Saturday June the 25th and Jan Arne and Me (Beverly) where on a flight to Helsinki, Finland. We where going to Helsinki for Jan Arne’s work I was just tagging along. That evening after arriving in Helsinki I started to really have bad back spasms that would come ever 10 to 20 minutes. I had no clue what was going on but i do no that over the course of the night I couldn’t sleep because the pain kept getting worse and worse. Now knowing that those where contractions I did pretty good to last tell 6am when we got dressed and took a taxi to the hospital.
We get to the hospital and not much staff where on due to mid summer festivals so we waited about 3 hours to be told we where having a baby. We where both shocked and happy at the same time. I was more scared the baby was early we got transferred to the woman’s hospital and I finally got checked and was already 4cm along.
The pain at this point was getting to be to much for me so I opted for gas hoping it would work and it did not and 5m I got an epi. The epi lasted tell 8cm where they then gave me another shot which didn’t work. Which was fine from 8cm to 10cm was very painful but I survived with the help of my wonderful Husband putting a cool cloth on my head we got through the last stage of birth really well.
Then time came to pushing and after 20 minutes of pushing our wonderful baby boy Ari Lukas was here on June 26th 5:31pm weighing in at 7 pounds 2 ounces and 18.5 inchs long.
